Just Say Hic

A literature/reading motivation designed for primary and elementary grade levels. Hasan is a simpleminded servant boy who lives in a village in Turkey. One day, his master sends him to the market to buy some salt. Hasan is a good enough servant boy, but he has a problem: he can never remember anything from one moment to the next. Determined not to forget his masterís instruction, Hasan decides to repeat the word for salt over and over. As it happens, the common word for salt in Hasanís village is hic (ìheechî), which also means ìnothingî in most parts of Turkey.
