Description

Tania Kamal-Eldin returns to Cairo after her fatherís death to document on film the images of the Cairo of her childhood and the realities of Cairo today. Old-timers reminisce with memories blurred by time. Viewers are introduced to a Cairo rarely filmed with such loving, yet clear-sighted intimacy. ìMy father died in a hotel in Cairo, Egypt. Weíre not certain of the date and time. When we called the Marriott asking for him, they said heíd checked out. He certainly had. Egyptian authorities confiscated all my fatherís possessions. My sister and I donít expect to recover any of them. Meanwhile it took the U.S. Embassy over a month to issue his death certificate. I return to Cairo as I have many times before, to reconnect and disconnect. With my fatherís death, my strongest tie to Egypt diminishes.î
